Challenge

Our client a fashion retailer, operates one of top 10 busiest e-commerce sites in the Netherlands with an assortment of more than 150000 articles and daily average sales of around EUR 200000. Their legacy commerce platform based on PHP was riddled with performance issues, data import taking too long, site going down during peak load and a non-engaging catalogue with not a lot of rich content.

Solution

Cloudloom partially fixed the performance issues, implemented a much faster data import job (2 minutes vs 40) and added a data cache to buy time going back to the drawing board to come up with a long-term solution. We identified the bottlenecks introduced by the technologies used (no connection pooling, no multi-threading, no logging, no instrumentation support) and the implementation (no data cache, blocking API’s, reverse proxy embedded within a process), presented the hard facts and convinced the customer to move to a modern platform.
